"Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily beset us,
and let us run with patience the race that is set before us."
Hebrews 12:1
he Christian life is described in
scripture as a race, a good fight, and a narrow path. These
descriptions are all very fitting. Just like each of these things,
the Christian life is a process, a journey, requiring endurance and
discipline. The path of Christianity is difficult, requiring both
discipline and sacrifice. The Christian life, however, is not one of
guilt and condemnation. The path we must walk is a process of transformation.
It is a process of becoming what you were meant to be, and who you
were meant to be. It is a process of conforming yourself to what
God desires of you, to the likeness of Jesus Christ. The scriptures state
that a righteous man is he who stumbles seven times and gets up
seven times to carry on. If you wish to walk this path you
must be willing to sacrifice and to learn discipline but you must also
learn that you are not condemned for mistakes or failures.
The bible is full of wisdom and teaching about how we should live.
It is the final and complete authority. What I lay out here are simply
some of the key elements or virtues that God desires us, to not only have,
but more importantly to be. Many of these virtues are closely related
and they often depend upon each other, but each is individually important
as well.
